By Madhup. Chandigarh, 16th Mar: In the Silver Jubilee year of IGNOU, 21st convocation of the university was held with great enthusiasm and fanfare. This was the first convocation ceremony for newly established Regional Centre of Chandigarh. While the main function at IGNOU HQs was presided by Shri S.K. Joshi eminent Scientist and former Director General of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), The Guest of Honor at Regional Centre was Shri Pradeep Srivastava, IPS, IG Police U.T Chandigarh. The Regional Centre of Chandigarh has four district of Punjab, two of Haryana besides Chandigarh under its Jurisdiction. The main function was held at IGNOU HQs at Maidan Gargi New Delhi and it was simultaneously celebrated at all Regional Centre through Teleconferencing.
While Vice Chancellor in his Annual report highlighted achievement of IGNOU and congratulated more than 1.33 lacs awardees enrolled in different Programmes of IGNOU. In his report he elaborated several new initiatives taken by IGNOU. These included On Campus Programmes, studies through Community Colleges, the scheme of Gyan Deep based on IGNOU Army community colleges for education and empowerment of Jawans and Army personnel, Convergence scheme of study through 427 partner institutions, e- villages scheme and many other collaborations.
While Dr. Asha Sharma felicitated the Guest of honor at the local function. She felicitated Shri Pradeep Srivastava and welcomed him and other eminent guests present in the auditorium of university School of open Learning USOL at Panjab University. She informed that approximately 1900 learners are enrolled with this centre since July 2009 till the current session. She congratulated the awardees and requested them to uphold the values of honor, dignity, friendship of social well being and compassion towards fellow men.
Shri Pradip Srivastava also congratulated awardees and wished them well Shri Ashok Arora and Ms Vandana gave mementoes to those present at the dias and function was compare by Ms. Ranjana, Consultant Dr. Jasbir Lohan escorted the Guest of Honour. Shri Jatinder Kainth, Shri Gurmeet Singh, Shri Sadhu Ram, Shri Tilak Raj organized an exhibition of study material of IGNOU on this occasion.
There were 155 Awardees from different Programs of IGNOU out of these 4z present were enrolled in Degree and 27 percent in master’s Degree Programs approximately 15 percent were given Diploma and 22% were given P.G. Diploma in this function.
