Chandigarh,11Apr:Today Dr Sween and Paramjit Singh Kang, department of Adult Education, Dr Prem Nath, Department of Laws, and Abhik Ghosh from the department of Anthropology sat on the chain fast amongst the teachers and Sh Paras Mahajan and Tandeep Singh of the department of Geology represented students community on the chain fast.In the evening JAC held a meeting, and looking at the massive response from the teachers and students decided to continue with the Chain Fast, including during the holidays. While thanking the print media for giving wide coverage to the legitimate demand of the university teachers and students it is decided to mobilize print media too during the next week.
Among the prominent visitors to the Dharna site were Sh Anil Sarwal, Vice President Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU), Sh Ajaib Singh, member PPSC, Sh G.K Chathrath, and Sh P.S. Gill, both Fellows P.U. In the meeting of JAC it has been decided that a massive rally along with the support from local college teachers will be organized on Wednesday noon at the site of chain fast. Sh Anil Sarwal, Vice President PCCTU assured mobilization of the local college teachers on the demand for the central university status to P.U.
In the meeting also a sub-committee, headed by Keshav Malhotra, Fellow P.U. and Dr Karamjit Singh, Treasurer PUTA has been constituted to mobilize opinion from all the regional centers of P.U., as also from the affiliated colleges in favour of central university status to P.U. as each and every one taking education from P.U. is going to benefit from the better financial condition of the University. There is a need to educate people about the current serious crunch the University is undergoing at the moment and how the central status would be helpful for the entire region by providing quality education at affordable expenses. On the other hand efforts to have an early meeting with the Prime Minister and Minister of Human Resource Development has been intensified.
A team of PUTA would go door to door on Saturday and mobilize teachers still in larger number. By today the number of signature of students on the representation for the central university status has touched to 2000, told Parminder Jaswal, President Students Council.
