CHANDIGARH, December 2:Two members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee (SGPC) from Voltoha in Tarn Taran district, Jagjit Singh Bhullar and Master Shingara Singh joined the Congress in presence of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh at the party office here today. They said, they believed that Capt Amarinder Singh was the only leader in the state who could steer the state out of the current problems.
Later in an informal interaction with the reporters the PCC President disclosed that there were several other leaders and workers keen to join the party and they will be welcome here. About the SGPC members Capt. Amarinder Singh clarified, while the Congress as a political party had nothing to do with the SGPC as it was a religious body, but the SGPC members had every right to have their own political views when it comes to mainstream politics.
He stated that the two SGPC members had expressed their desire to join the Congress. Accompanied by Rana Gurjeet Singh and several other supporters they came to the party office and announced their allegiance to the Congress. They said, the SGPC needed to be rid of the vested interests who had made it as their personal and private property.
Capt Amarinder Singh disclosed that there were several other leaders from different political parties, particularly the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal who were keen to get in touch with him to join the party. He said, everybody is welcome to join the party and Congress was such a large party and quite accommodative which gave space to every shade and opinion irrespective of their caste, creed or religion.
A large number of people from different parts of the state today met the PCC president. They included former ministers, sitting and former legislators and party workers from all over Punjab .
