Chandigarh, 22 Sep : His Excellency, Gen. (Retd) S.F.Rodrigues, PVSM,VSM, Governor, Punjab andAdministrator, U.T., Chandigarh, presented awards to the outstanding teachers of Govt. and recognized public schools and non-formal/voluntary teachers, NGOs and other officials of Education Department (schools) UT, Chandigarh in Awards Ceremony held in the auditorium of Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh today. Mrs. Raji P. Shrivastava, Director Higher Education was also present on the occasion. For the first time in the history of Chandigarh, Education Department has taken the initiative to invite all the state and national awardees teachers since the inception of Chandigarh to this award ceremony. As many as 132 teachers, 30 NGOs including 5 voluntary teachers were honoured with a shawls and a bouquet of flowers. All the Principals and teachers who worked hard to make this function a grand success were also honoured with mementoes/gifts.
From the year 2008, Lifetime Achievement Award has been instituted by Chandigarh Administration. This year, this award is given to Ms. Pritpal Kaur who had retired from active service of Government and is presently working as Mission Coordinator, SSA, UT, Chandigarh. This time the awards have been given under urban and rural schools categories.
Addressing the gathering on this occasion, His Excellency, Gen. Rodrigues congratulated the awardees and appreciated them for their significant contribution in the field of Education. He motivated the teachers to keep up their commitment to the cause of education.
