CHANDIGARH, OCT 6 :The Usha-Chandigarh Junior and Sub-Junior Indian Golf Union categorised Tournament will be played at the sprawling Chandigarh Golf Course here from October 7 to 10. Addressing a press conference at Chandigarh Golf Club here today, CGC president DS Bains said that competitions would be conducted for category A (16 to 18 years, maximum handicap 9), category B (13-14 yrs, maximum handicap 12), category C (11-12 yrs, maximum handicap 18) and category D (up to 10 yrs, maximum handicap 30). A cut off will be applied after days.
As only 30 entries were permissible in each category, pre-qualifiying rounds in category A and B were conducted.The golfers, who figure among the first 20 in the merit list of the Indian Golf Union, are exempted from pre-qualifying round. They would get direct entry.
Chairman Tournament and Handicapping Tej Partap Singh Virk said the the IGU has made it compulsory for to compete in al least three categorised tournaments. Thirteen girls, including eight from Delhi, are in fray for the titles. Twelve golfers from each categories will be awarded points which are counted to prepare the merit list by the IGU.
Also present in the press conference were Ms Bubbles Sujena, Krishna Prasad (tournament director), HC Sethi (chairman media and publicity committee) and KS Singh (representative of Usha International).
Last year’s champions are: Rahul Bakshi (Category A), Ashbeer Saini (Category B), Gurbani Singh (Category C) and Vidit Singh (Category D).
