CHANDIGARH, SEPT 5:The Board of Control for Cricket in India Panel Umpires Written Examination 2008 was conducted at PCA Stadium, Mohalil. One hundred nine candidates appeared for the written test which was conducted by a panel of umpire examiners headby former Test umpire S. Venkatraghavan.
The other panelists were S. K. Bansal (North Zone), Subrata Banerjee (East Zone), V. K. Ramaswamy (South Zone), B. A. Jamula (West Zone), Narendra Menon (Central Zone).
The 33 first class cricketers and 80 non cricketers took the written examination. The written paper for the cricketers was for two hours while the paper for the noncricketers for three hours. M. P. Panodve, Joint Secretary, BCCI who is also convener of Umpire Sub-Committee, BCCI and the staff of PCA ensured the smooth conduct of the examination.
The panel of examiners will be marking the papers tonight and the result of the written examination is expected tomorrow. The candidates found successful in the written examination will have to appear a viva voce at Bangalore on September 13 and 14,. Fifteen successful candidates are likely to be recommended for BCCI panel umpires.
