Barinder Saluja, Chandigarh,March 08 : It was in 1911, March 08, when first time Women’s Day was celebrated. Today, Dev Samaj College of Education, sector 36, celebrated the 100th International Women’s day in the college premises today to recognise and honour the feminine fraternity. The Guest of Honor, Mr. Sushil Gupta, President, Citizen Council for Human Rights, emphasised on educating girls and women which is probably the single most productive investment one can make to create wealth in the form of strong communities and healthy societies. He administered a pledge on Female Foeticide to the faculty and the students. Students participated in poetry recitation on the theme of “Women Emancipation and Empowerment”. Earlier in the day, a bicycle rally was organised in collaboration with Yuvsatta from the Chandigarh Press Club, Sector-27 to Sukhna Lake. The special event was organized to recognise the efforts of the women who make significant contributions in both work and home
Later in the day, an interactive session was held on Legal Awareness on Women Rights. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Jagdeep Jain, Superior Judicial Services, and Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh cum judge Permanent Lok Adalat, U.T., Chandigarh. Speaking on the occasion, he enlightened the participants on various key issues about Women Rights and made them aware about the provisions that are available in the constitution for the weaker sections of the society.
