The India Post, Chandigarh, 2nd September, 2008 :The Punjab and Chandigarh branch of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association is holding a ‘One Day Seminar on Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PC-PNDT Act) on 7th September, 2008 at Conference Hall, Level-IV, Block-B, Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32-B, Chandigarh.
Prof. Suman Kochhar, Organising Chairperson and Head, Deptt. of Radiodiagnosis at GMCH, Chandigarh, informed that the Seminar has been specially planned to highlight the problem of female feticide and to spread the message of “Save the Girl Child”. It also proposes to educate the radiologists and gynaecologists and State and District appropriate authorities about the PC-PNDT Act, its scope and implementation. It is meant for gynaecologists, radiologists, social scientists, NGOs and appropriate authorities working in the field.
The Seminar is being organised in association with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India. It will include lectures on devastating effects of female feticide, legal aspects of the PC-PNDT Act, implementation of the Act and guest lectures including gynaecologists’ perspective. Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA) will be represented by its President Dr. N. Kulasekaran, its Secretary General Dr. Rajesh Kapur and Coordinator of PC-PNDT Act Dr. Jignesh G. Thakker. The representatives of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India and State representatives from Punjab and Haryana, will also deliver talks during the Seminar. The Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh Shri Pradip Mehra will deliver the inaugural address and Ms. Raji P. Shrivastava, Secretary, Health, Med. Education and Special Secretary Finance, UT, Chandigarh, will also address the gathering.
A special feature of the Seminal will be an ‘interactive session’ in which representatives of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, legal advisors, office bearers of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association and press representatives will participate. The Organising Committee Chairperson Prof. Suman Kochhar invites wider participation from the public in the Seminar.
