25 Sep :The first lady of Punjab, Mrs Jean Rodrigues, inaugurated the “Save Environment Day” at Glass Palace, Sector 7-C with the sole motive of turning the blue planet green today. Children from all the schools in the tricity participated in the celebrations. A special painting competition ‘paint a face’ was organised for the children in the age group of 5-12 years. The children participated in the competition with gusto and painted nature with vibrant colours.
“The idea behind organising the competition is to inculcate creativity and a sense of social responsibility among children,” said the owner . The celebrations will continue till September 27 after 4 pm in the Palace premises.
In a major contribution to the environment, participants were given a sapling along with a brochure detailing benefits of plants in our day-to-day life.
Among the jury who were present at the inaugural function were Mr Ravinder Sharma, Dr Ranjeet Pawar, Mrs Kumkum Kohli, Prof Inder Gupta and Mrs Neeru Vijh. The jury will announce the names of winners on October 4.
