Chandigarh, February 15: With an aim to provide the residents of City Beautiful with quality medicines at affordable price, the Indian Red Cross Society, U.T. Chandigarh Branch opened its second ‘Jan
Aushadhi Outlet’ at GMSH-16, Chandigarh. The outlet was inaugurated by Sh. Brijendra Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society. Now, people can avail quality medicines at GMCH-32 and GMSH-16 at much affordable rates.
At present branded medicines are being sold by the drug manufacturers at higher prices as compared to their unbranded generic equivalents, which are as good in therapeutic value. The “Jan Aushadhi” initiative will ensure access to quality medicines and health care to all by making drugs available at affordable prices. For
example the branded Diclofenac tablets which are available at the average market rate of Rs.36.70 for a pack of 10 tablets would be sold at the Jan Aushadhi Outlet at Rs. 3.10 only. Also, 10 tablets strip of a new generation antibiotic priced around Rs. 150/- in the retail market would be available at Rs. 30/-. Tablet Cetrizine (10mg)
would cost Rs. 2.75/- at the Jan Aushadhi outlet whereas the same in the retail market is for Rs.20/-. Over 200 different medicines/surgical items are available at the Jan Aushadhi Generic Drug store, GMCH, Sector 32, and now at GMSH-16, Chandigarh.
The Deputy Commissioner also flagged off two ambulances on this occasion to provide better ambulance facilities to the people of Chandigarh. The Indian Red Cross Society with the fleet of six ambulances and three Funeral vans is providing 24 X 7 services to the people.
Sh. Kavle V Parshuram, IAS, SDM(S)-cum-Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Director Health Services, U.T., Chandigarh, officers and officials of Chandigarh Administration along with the members of the Managing Body of the Society were also present on this occasion.
