Bihar, 21 Sep :Over Forty Thousand people affected by the flooding in Bihar have been helped by World Vision, so far.World Vision’s relief distribution on September 14th covered 5990 people providing them with survival kit which includes, Rice, Lentils, Powdered pulses 1kg (Sat-tu), Flat Rice 1kg (Chud-da), Jaggery ½ kg, Biscuits 2 pkts, Candles & match boxes, 1 pack each.
World Vision relief team will also carry out similar distribution programs in other mega camps and small camps as well. The district administration had extended their support in terms of providing security and making sure that relief operation runs smoothly.
There was short spell of heavy rain in some places of Madhepura and Saharsa, but the rainfall did not result in any rising water level. The Government plans to shift all flood affected population staying in small camps to the mega camps. While many people look forward to go to the mega camps, some are of the opinion that shifting permanently to the village is a better option. A decision is yet to be reached.
There has been a huge demand of bleaching powder, sanitation facilities, clothes, medicines, immunization, utensils, fuels and fodder for the livestock. UNICEF, Red Cross and WHO are looking after the health issues with the help of local NGOs
Providing of alternative education within the big camps is underway and the government has already deputed teachers and made children’s recreational facilities available
