6 Apr : The video footage of RJD leader Rabri Devi’s poll rally where she stirred a controversy for the volley of abuse against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will be examined by the full bench of the Election Commission while considering any action.
"The Commission is seized of the matter relating to Rabri’s remarks. I am carrying the CD of the footage of her election speech in Chapra on April 4," Election Commissioner Navin Chawla told a crowded press conference in Patna.
"The footage will be examined by the full bench of the Commission before taking necessary action soon," Chawla said.Asked whether the word ‘sala (brother-in-law) used by Rabri Devi was ‘abusive’, he quipped "Why are you asking me? All of you are aware of it?"
After being slapped with a FIR on Sunday night for allegedly making insulting personal remarks against Kumar and state JD(U) President Rajiv Ranjan Singh Lalan, the former chief minister also faced another complaint of "scandalising and lowering" the authority of judiciary.
Nitish Kumar meanwhile was joined by president of Bihar’s ruling JD(U) Sharad Yadav in demanding stern and legal action against the former Bihar chief minister.
Rabri’s husband and RJD supremo Lalu Yadav is locked in a direct fight with BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy in Chapra.
A petition was filed in the Patna High Court by senior advocate Ashutosh Ranjan Pandey seeking initiation of criminal contempt proceedings against Rabri Devi for her alleged remarks made against the judiciary at the Chapra poll rally.
