By Avnish Jolly, 5th December, 2011 : Puttenahalli Lake, Bangalore Project – PNLIT is a four member citizen group who not only initiated restoration of the Puttenahalli Lake in Bangalore but also became the first citizens’ group in the city to formally maintain it. They started lake maintenance expenses solely from donations made by individual well wishers and we work on a truly tight budget. However, within two years the lake has undergone such a transformation and is attracting so many birds that the local administration BBMP plans to replicate the “Puttenahalli Lake Model” on other lakes in the city.
Arathi Manay one of the member of citizen group is very happy to tell share with us that their project “PNLIT – nurturing Puttenahalli Lake back to its pristine glory” has been cleared as an entry in the Mahindra Spark the Rise Project Championship
A win in this competition means a great deal to us and to the many people in the city who are trying to emulate our example and save a lake in their neighborhood.
People can vote, follow and support projects during the month long round. They are live in Round 4 (voting from 1 to 31 Dec 2011). Projects that receive the most votes stand to gain financial support from Mahindra. They need at least 7000 votes to be in the reckoning for the Rs. 40 lakh grant awarded to the overall winner. Do please vote for community efforts and get your family and friends to do so too!
