5 May : A large camp of KLNLF militants was busted by the army in central Assam’s Karbi Anglong district early on Tuesday morning and a huge cache of arms was recovered.
The troops of the Light Maratha Infantry Regiment launched an operation against the Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) and busted their group headquarters camp at Borpung in Bokajan area, army sources said.
However, all the 30 to 40 KLNLF cadres in the camp fled prior to the arrival of the army men, the sources said.A huge cache of arms, which was yet to be identified and sorted, was recovered along with ammunition, documents and rations.
Further operations are on to nab the militants, they said.The insurgent group has been resorting to violence targeting security personnel.On Monday night they had killed a CRPF and an Assam Police personnel in an ambush at Blather, under Balkan police station, about 320 km from Guwahati, during a 72-hour KLNLF sponsored bandh.
