11 Oct : The Assam government will recommend a CBI probe into reported hoisting of a ‘Pakistan flag’ in clash-hit Udalguri district, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said in Guwahati on Saturday. However, the government spokesman denied any reports of raising of the flag of the neighbouring country in the clash-hit region."I will go for a CBI inquiry as they have the resources to find out the real culprits, whom we can punish and also educate the people not to be influenced by them," Gogoi told reporter in Guwahati.
The state CID would also investigate so as to immediately know who were responsible for the violence as the CBI would take sometime for the probe, he said."A judicial inquiry, already on, will unearth the conspiracy behind the clashes and hoisting of the flag. The conspiracy caused communal hatred," he said.
On reported hoisting of Pakistani flag, Gogoi said, "if Bangladeshis are allegedly involved, then why would they hoist a Pakistan flag. According to the district Superintendent of Police it is not a Pakistan flag. But we have to know who did it."
"I find the conspirators more dangerous than the emotionally charged people who indulged in the clashes," the CM said."From both groups there is a minuscule section which indulged in the violence for land grabbing purpose, but one of the major reasons for the clash was the hatred created by the Asom Gana Parishad and BJP", he alleged.
"BJP leader L K Advani’s recent politically motivated statement here of largescale unabated infiltration from Bangladesh caused mistrust in the minds of the people," Gogoi alleged. DDINEWS
