PASIGHAT : The Solung festival was celebrated with traditional gaiety, religious fervour and fun fare at the Solung ground, Pasighat today. People from all works of life participated enthusiastically showing the sense of unity and integrity.
The Education minister Bosiram Siram and DC (Incharge) SC Debnath and Member of Parliament Ninong Ering took part in the festivities as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Special Guest respectively.
The Chief Guest Siram while delivering his speech on the auspicious occasion of Solung said earlier it was confined to individual household and villages but with the growth of education in the society, the festival took its mass celebration form involving all communities in praying the nature deities for prosperities. Passing a good message to the younger generation, he said such celebration is like a mirror of the society through which ones own identity is reflected. He humbly appealed all to celebrate the occasion in true spirit, preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Adis. It gives chances to enjoy few days with traditional sports & games despite busy schedules of our life and artists to display their talents, added Siram.
Taking privilege, the minister appealed all to cooperate in the state building processes and to extend whole hearted supports to establish hydropower projects to strengthen the economic growths of the state.
The Chief Guest remembered Golgi Bote Talom Rukbo the reformer of Donypoloism and paid homage. He appreciated Er. Oni Jamoh and Obijon Rukbo President and Secretary CSFCC11, Pasighat for organizing the age-old indigenous festival in a befitting manner.
Siram inaugurated a new website of CSFCC Pasighat and newly constructed EXIT gate on the occasion. Before concluding address, he once again prayed the Solung goddess to shower bumper harvest, peace, prosperity and good health and hoped God Doying-Bote and Goddess Kine-Nanne would bless each one of us.
Earlier, the DC Debnath (Guest of Honour) while attending the Solung festival celebration congratulated the people for successful observation and asserted that despite the onslaught of globalization and modernity, Adis are competent enough to preserve and promote their rich cultural heritage.
Other highlights of the day were Taku Taabat (a ritual to begin) and the ceremonial flag hoisting by the Chief Guest followed by chanting of hymns by the Solung Miri Akak Moyong.
Among others, Tayom Dai outlined the significance of Solung festival and PPL recipient Kaling Borang elaborated on mythological aspects. Dr. Igul Padung informed the chief guest of the first central celebration was the architect of modern Arunachal Lt. Daying Ering while P.N. Malhotra, Adviser to Governor of Assam was the special guest during 1967.
