PASIGHAT, July 3 : The nine-day-long Jagnnath Puja begun today with devotional fevour and joy at Pasighat in Manipuri temple, situated near Balaji temple, Pasighat. Hundreds of devotees thronged in the revered temple and offered puja.
Thousand kilometers away from home, the homesick Bishnupriya Monipuri community organized the puja in a befitting manner and taking the same grandiosity several communities also joined to host the event.On this auspicious occasion the three deities, Lord Jagannath who is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Balabhadra and Subhadra undertake their journey in chariots pulled by devotees. The puja popularly known as Rath Yatra celebrated on the second day of the lunar fortnight that falls during June-July every year. It commemorates the journey of Lord Krishna from Gokul to Mathura.
