PASIGHAT, April 23: Heavy hailstorm lasted for some three minutes, hit Ngorlung, Ralung and Rayang village of Ruksin of Sub-division and Jampani of Sille-Oyan Circle on Friday, causing serious damages to KGBV Rayang School building, houses, agri-huts and crops and also uprooted many electrical poles etc. No casualties have been reported so far.
According to an initial investigation, the hailstorm (9.30 pm) lasted for some three minutes only but many of the areas’ agricultural productive facilities including more than thousand agri-huts and greenhouses were ravaged. Local administration has made prompt arrangements to organize efforts against the disaster and relief work is still underway in disaster-hit areas.We managed to get out of our house and just found there was nothing left for the roof said many homeless villagers. Many wire poles were uprooted and damaged disrupting power supply and numerable electrical personnel rushed to the site to resume power supply.
The local MLA Dr. Tangor Tapak along with SDO Ruksin Y Tayeng, Anchal Chairperson Ojing Aje, ADO, DIPRO, OC (APP), and other local leaders visited all the places and donated some amounts for immediate relief. Tapak also assured to take the immediate maintenance and repairing works of KGBV School Rayang.
Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner Onit Panyang directed the SDO Ruksin and DRRO to submit assessment report and to help the people of disaster-hit areas to comfort those in need and help to relocate homeless residents.
At Jampani, the Friday night’s rainfall and the hailstorm are not only going to affect the quality but the crop yield may go down this season informed the agricultural expert O Yomso DAO. The unexpected hailstorm dashed the hopes of farmers and has damaged standing crops in many parts of Sille-Oyan caused worry among the farmers, who were otherwise hoping for a record wheat production this season, he further added.
