PASIGHAT, Feb 2: ‘Donggin’ a major festival of Adi Bori sub-tribe, mainly settled at Payum circle in West Siang district. Here at Pasighat, few families of Bori community celebrated the festival with pomp and gaiety and fanfare. The beliefs behind the festival are rooted deep in the indigenous religious and cultural ethos of the Bori community. The renowned social worker and senior public leader Nanom Jamoh and PMA President Onyok Tamuk witnessed the mesmerizing traditional celebration as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. The Chief Guest Jamoh in her message prayed for promotion of peace, bumper harvest and high yield, preserving the rich cultural heritage. I believed that the festival would strengthen the emotional integration, goodwill and mutual understanding amongst the citizens bringing happiness and tranquility in the society, added Jamoh in her speech. Earlier the Guest of Honour Tamuk stated the main objective of the celebration was to welcome a new year, full of joy and happiness. He also stated it was an opportunity to meet the community members and to make other merrymaking. The general secretary, Donggin Celebration Committee, Pasighat Dr. T Talom said it was an auspicious occasion to exchange gifts and construction of new house and granaries. Talom further informed during the celebration Boris sacrifice pigs and mithuns and worship deities for prosperity and also to make the society free from evil spirit, natural calamities and accidents etc.
