3 Dec : Foolproof security arrangements have been put in place for the four-day Internet Governance Forum conference that began at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre in Hyderabad. The Cyberabad Police Commissionerate that is in charge of the security arrangements is deploying about 1,000 police officers and men for ‘bandobast’ duties.
As many as 1,500 delegates, including about 1,000 from 90 countries across the world, are expected to take part in the third annual event of the IGF that is being held for the first time in India.
With so many foreign guests expected, Cyberabad police are leaving nothing to chance in the wake of the recent terror strikes in Mumbai that targeted foreigners in particular.
"We cannot disclose certain strategic points involved in the security arrangements, but we can reassure everyone that adequate and foolproof security is being arranged," Cyberabad Police Commissioner S Prabhakara Reddy said on Tuesday.
Informed sources said some sleuths from the United Nations too have arrived in Hyderabad to oversee the security arrangements in co-ordination with the local police.
The conference venue has already come under heavy security blanket and no person without valid identity is being allowed access.Police pressed sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squads into service to sanitize the HICC complex.
Security is also being tightened at the Hyderabad International Airport and the routes leading to the Hyderabad International Convention Centre.
