By G.SUJATA, HYDERABAD: 5/June/2011: With the resignation majority of the members of Parliament, Legislative council and Legislative Assembly of Telengana region belonging to Congress, Telugu Desam Party and Telengana Rastra Samithi (TRS), the Telengana state issue has once again flared up, after a gap of six months in Andhra Pradesh.
Even though the resignations of the members of Assembly and Council have not yet been accepted by the Speakers of the respective Houses at state and also by the Speaker of Indian Parliament at New Delhi, the 48 hours strike call given by the Telengana Rastra Samithi on 5th June, turned violent at some places of Telengana districts especially at Osmania University campus at Hyderabad capital city. As the Members of Andhra Pradesh state Legislature and Council, belonging to Hyderabad city have not resigned for their membership of the Houses, the TRS activists have attacked their houses demanding their resignations.
The rebel leader of Telugu Desam Party and Mr.N.J.Reddy and Mr.Harish Rao of TRS party when tried to enter into the Osmania University campus to incite students, police have arrested them nearby NCC gate at O.U. campus this afternoon resulting in clashes between police and students at campus near ‘B’ Hostel. As the students pelted stones on police and on Osmania University police station, to disperse the student mob police have thrown tear gas shells and done lathi charge resulting in minor injuries to five students. The Osmania Univesity students belonging to TRS party warned the resigned Members of Parliament and State Assembly and Council, if they withdrawn their resignation for any reason, the consequences would be severe for them.
To avoid anticipated losses due to be created to the Buses and MMTS trains by the Telengana political activists, the Road Transport Corporation and Railways have completely abandoned their services and confined their Buses and Trains to depots, resulting in great inconvenience to the common public in the region. The Road Transport Corporations have also stopped their services to Hyderabad city from the Reayalaseem and Andhra districts resulting in heavy losses to small and medium level vegetable farmers, fruit vendors and other small businessmen.
Fearing attacks on business establishments by Telengana activists, the supermarkets, petrol bunks and other business groups have shut down their shops since early this morning. As the strike call is given up to Wednesday business establishments would be closed tomorrow also. All the educational institutions also remained closed today. In some places of Hyderabad city, Uppal, Habsiguda, Ameerpet, Kukatpally and Vanasthalipuram areas and on Vijayawada High way the Telengana activists have attacked the private vehicles. In Karimnagar district the ‘MORE’ group of supermarkets are smashed down by the Telengana Rastra Samithi activists.
A group of Lawyers belonging to TRS party has stopped the Lawyers and also the clients from entering into the Court Halls at City Civil Courts, Hyderabad Metro Criminal Courts, Secunderabad City Courts and at Ranga Reddy Distrcit courts at Hyderabad. The Court works at Kukatpally, Nedredmet were also disrupted by the Telengana Lawyers. In other districts of Telengana also the Court works came to standstill due to Telengana protests. In the High Court of Andhra Pradesh also the court proceedings came to stand still, as several abstained from attended from Court.
The resigned Members of Parliament belonging to Telengana region’s Congress party have been making futile efforts since this morning to get a fresh statement on Telengana issue from Mrs.Sonia Gandhi, the Congress General Secretary Mr.Gulam Nabi Azad re-iterated this late afternoon that Telengana issue is complicated one and all party consensus and consultations are required for decision on Telengana issue. And Mr.Azad also stated to the utter shock of the resigned members of Parliament that there is no danger for the UPA government at center with the resignation of members of Parliament of Telengana region.
So no break though is likely to get today or tomorrow or in near future on Telengana issue in the discussions between the Congress party high-command and Telengana Parliamentarians belonging to Congress party. If further violence breaks out in the days to come the result could be imposition of President Rule in the State of Andhra Pradesh.
