Jagpreet Sandhu, Patiala, November 19 : Kulwinder Kaur, native of a small village in Patiala underwent a surgery and donated her kidney to save her 30 year old husbands’ life who was suffering from chronic renal failure.
Her husband Baljinder was on dialysis from the past several months and had lost all hope of living a normal life. However, this selfless act by his wife saved Baljinder’s life. The kidney transplant was conducted by a team of doctors led by Dr Nitin Gupta (Urologist & transplant surgeon) & Dr. Udham Singh, Nephrologist at Columbia Asia, Hospital, Patiala.
This is Columbia Asia Hospital, Patiala’s second successful renal transplant, and also boasts of being the first transplant centre conducting such surgeries in the entire belt of Malwa.
Chronic Renal failure is a slowly progressive disease of the kidneys that often goes unnoticed until the kidneys have been severely affected. If proper precaution is not taken in the early stages, this may lead to an end-stage renal disease. Early clues to kidney diseases are unexplained fever, difficulty in passing urine or passing too much or too little urine, progressive swelling around the eyes on waking up etc.
Baljinder was suffering from chronic hypertension. He has recovered well and is successfully making his journey back to a healthy and normal life.
