30 April : An awareness camp on Birth Preparedness and Antenatal Care was organized by School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh in collaboration with Chandigarh Health Administration and Resident Welfare Association in Polyclinic, sector 45, Chandigarh on 29 April 2011. Around 100 antenatal and nursing mothers, local dais had attended the camp. Dr. Manmeet Kaur, Assistant Professor of Health Promotion and Dr. Madhu Gupta, Assistant Professor of Community Medicine from School of Public Health PGIMER stressed on importance of antenatal care and birth preparedness which include arranging for money for the delivery, transport at the time of urgency, availability of relatives for household chores etc., so that any untoward maternal death occurring from delay in reaching the hospital at the time of urgency/emergency can be prevented. Emphasis was laid on institutional delivery to prevent maternal deaths by detecting and managing complication at an early stage. It was informed that delivery facility will be started in polyclinic 45 in near future. Dr. Anju Bhatia Public Health Consultant from Chandigarh Health Administration distributed the related IEC materials to all mothers and explained about the benefits to mothers under Janani Surakha Yojana. Mr Saini, the General Secretary of Resident Welfare Association expressed the benefits of such camps and assured to assist in organizing these camps in future also
