Dr. Avnish Jolly, 30th July, 2008 :Pretoria – Southern Africa HIV and AIDS Information Dissemination Service (SAfAIDS) today launches its new dynamic, informative, resourceful and interactive website. The site, http://www.safaids.net, is specially designed to promote ethical and effective development responses to the epidemic and its impact through HIV and AIDS knowledge management, capacity development, advocacy, policy analysis and research with special regard to gender, human rights, and other development concerns.
In launching the new website, SAfAIDS Executive Director Lois B Chingandu said, “A dynamic disease like HIV and AIDS demands modern and innovative information tools that will narrow the gap between information and practice. In the absence of a magic bullet to cure HIV and AIDS, accurate information remains the most practical and effective strategy of dealing with the epidemic at every level of the response.”
SAfAIDS has designed this new interactive website as part of its mission to expand information outreach to its diverse audience and to complement its information dissemination role in Southern Africa. The website provides opportunities for sharing the work of SAfAIDS and to expand access to HIV and AIDS information on prevention, treatment, care and mitigations to service providers and communities. Some new features on the website include: sharing of best practices, new research or hot news, policy dialogues and policy documents from countries in Southern Africa. By subscribing and /or logging in, users can register to be on the SAfAIDS mailing list to receive materials, participate in e-discussions and to get invites to the various SAfAIDS activities.
Visit our new website and learn more about SAfAIDS approach to documenting best practices; policy dialogues as an innovative approach to working with policy makers, civil society and PLHIV and “community dialogues” as a tool for influencing changes in negative cultures within rural communities.
Registered users can submit content such as events and online articles. If you have found the website useful, the site gives you an opportunity to introduce it to the next person.
Please note that development of a website is an ongoing process. SAfAIDS will be constantly upgrading the website to remain true to its vision as the “leading organisation in the provision of cutting-edge HIV and AIDS information in Southern Africa.”
