Chandigarh, September 13th: Rashtriya Swasthiya Bima Yojna- is a scheme which gives social security to the poor persons who are below the poverty line. The scheme will be launched in Chandigarh on October 1st. A meeting to implement the scheme was held under the chairmanship of Secretary Health Shri Ram Niwas. According to Health Secretary, “Illness and need of medical care is a frequent insecurity amongst the poorer section. Health insurance is one good and secure way of providing protection to poor households against risk of health. This Scheme will be beneficial to many poor people”.
RSBY is scheme for BPL families and covers hospitalization (Indoor) expenses which require minimum 24 hrs stay in hospital. Total sum insured is Thirty thousand per BPL- Smart Card holding family per annum. This cashless Health Insurance Scheme aims to facilitate Health Insurance to the poorer section of society. This scheme also gives additional coverage for Pre existing diseases , Maternity benefit , and Expenses of 1 day prior the admission and 5 days post date of discharge from hospital and Transportation cost ( per visit Rs. 100 and over all limit Rs. 1000/-.
As per scheme guidelines, every BPL family is issued biometric smart card.The registration fee is Rs 30 per family which includes Head of family, spouse and three children. Card is operational after 1 month of issuance. Hospitals Govt. as well as private hospitals have been enrolled for these schemes. Empanelled hospital under RSBY in Chandigarh are GMCH-32, GMSH-16, CHC-22, CHC- Manimajra, Gupta eye Hospital –Manimajra , NINJB Brain- Sector-34, Chandigarh, Santokh Nursing Home- Sector-38 A Chandigarh.
In Chandigarh, smart cards process has been started in Colonies No. 4 & 5, Badheri, Kajheri, Palsora, Dhanas, Maloya, Khudda Lahora, Khud Ali Sher, Behlana, Sarangpur from 1st of September 2010. This process will go on till 21st of September 2010 as per schedule provided by Insurance Company ICICI- Lombard.
