Chandigarh, April 3 : Rotaract Club Chandigarh Himalayan organized a Drug De-addiction awareness campaign at City Plaza, Sector 17 here today. The slogan of the event was “Drugs, mess with your body, mess with you.” Over 40 youths associated with Rotract were present on the occasion.
Rtr. Sandeep Singh, President, Rotaract Club Chandigarh Himalayan, said, “Drug misuse is not a disease; it is a decision, like the decision to step out in front of a moving car. You would call that not a disease but an error of judgment. The event will be followed by a drug rehabilitation center by Rotaract Himalayan in near future.”
He further added, “The campaign provides a platform to eradicate the evil effects of drugs abuse on youths. Campaign is being organized to create awareness on the growing problems of drug abuse in the city and to prevent the youth from getting into the world of drug abuse, alcohol and tobacco abuse.”
General people present on the spot actively participated in the campaign. They were handed over literature on the topic and hence made aware, along with a play and a human chain.
Rotaract is an international organization for young men and women between the age group of 18-30, who believe that they can make a difference to the world. Rotaract club provides an opportunity to young adults to enhance their knowledge and skills that will help them in personal development, to address the social needs of their communities and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.
