[Publicize Facebook twitter] Chandigarh : The annual 10 day community de-addiction camp organized by the department of Psychiatry, GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh in collaboration with Social Welfare Department, Chandigarh Administration and local Gram Panchyat, Dhanas at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Dhanas , from 21.3.15-30.3.15 is concluded today. A total of 138 patients were registered in the camp, out of which 110 were new and 28 were follow up patients. Out of total patients, 13 patients were admitted in the indoor camp. The predominant diagnoses were Alcohol dependence followed by tobacco, opioid dependence (IDUs, Propoxyphene, Codeine containing cough syrup and afeem), Cannabis ( Ganja, Bhang). In addition to alcohol and drug abuse, patients of Depression and psychosis were also seen on OPD basis and medicines were dispensed. Majority of the admitted patients reported that they never got admitted for de-addiction and one patient narrated that had this camp held earlier, he would have sought treatment earlier. It is clear from the patients version that there is clear need of having regular de-addiction camp in the area from time to time, so that more number of patients can be inducted in to the treatment protocol. Patients, who were registered in the camp, will be seen in the community outreach clinics of the department of psychiatry on Tuesday (Dhanas), Khuda Alisher ( Wednesday), 26-Polic line dispensary ( Thursday) and RHTC ,Palsora ( Saturday) from 9.30 am-12.30pm.
