11 July:For outstanding research in the field of medicine and allied sciences, President Pratibha Patil has conferred the prestigious "Silver Jubilee Research Award Category I" on renowned physician Dr Anupam Sachdeva of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the Capital recently.
The award, instituted by the Medical Council of India (MCI), was bestowed on Dr Sachdeva for his contribution in the medical research during the last two decades.
This is the highest award for clinical research given by the MCI and carries a cash Prize of Rs 1 lakh and a citation. It has been conferred on only 16 people before this in the last 50 years.
Dr Sachdeva has been a pioneer in the field of research on childhood cancers and blood disorders and presently incharge of Pediatric Hematology Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.He has a number of research contributions, out of which his work on childhood blood cancers have been acclaimed internationally.
Dr Sachdeva was amongst the first few Paediatricians who started working exclusively in the field of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, which is sub-specialty of Pediatrics.
He had established the unit of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the year 1992 which was the first in the private sector and now recognized as the best Pediatric Oncology Hematology Centers in the country.
On the other hand, he is now heading the Pediatric Hematology Oncology association of India and is also the Secretary of the Asian Society of Pediatric Oncology. Courtsey DD NEWS
