The Week-Hansa Research Survey 2019 has ranked PGIMER second best in medical education, research and patient care. The Hospital is also the second best public hospital in the North Zone of the country and the best hospital in the city.
PGIMER has been judged as second best for medical education, research and multispeciality patient care amongst best government institutes in India. All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi stands first. As a hospital PGIMER once again stands second best amongst the top government hospitals in India as surveyed by The Week-Hansa Research SURVEY 2019. The cover story of the latest issue (September 29, 2019) of the weekly magazine THE WEEK is about INDIA’S BEST HOSPITALS. Amongst the best hospital specialisations, PGIMER stands first in Pulmonology; second in Paediatrics and fourth in Orthopaedics and Diabetes Care. Specialisations of Neurology and Gastroenterology are fifth and sixth respectively. Whereas specialisations of Cardiology; Ophthalmology and Oncology are eighth, ninth and twelfth respectively. City-wise amongst ten best multi-speciality hospitals in Chandigarh, PGIMER is first; Government Medical College & Hospital is second and Max Super Specialty Hospital is third.
The Week-Hansa survey covered 17 cities (plus the National Capital Region) that are important medical centres in the country. Top hospitals for 10 specialties were also ranked. The cities were – Delhi, Delhi NCR, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Jaipur, Indore, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Ahmedabad.
Perceptual data collection
A primary survey was conducted among health care experts- 726 physicians and 1,307 specialists. The sample was selected ensuring proper representation of all cities and specialities.
The experts were asked to nominate and rate the top 10 multispeciality hospitals in India and within their own city. Specialists were also asked to nominate and rate the top 10 hospitals for their specialization. Experts’ responses for hospitals they are associated with were ignored.
Ranking Methodology
The final rank for a hospital is based on the number of nominations received, ranks given, and the ratings on the following six parameters:
· Overall reputation
· Competency of doctors
· Infrastructure and facilities
· Patient care
· Hospital environment
· Research and innovation
