Every year 12th May is celebrated as International Nurses Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. At PGIMER, Chandigarh. International Nurses Week is being celebrated till 18thMay, to mark the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing profession. The theme for this year is “Nurses: A voice to lead: Health for all”. The week long activities started with inaugural function, organized at Bhargava Auditorium PGIMER, Chandigarh. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Prof. Jagat Ram, `Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh, and the Guest of Honour was Prof. A K Gupta, Medical Superintendent-cum-Head, Department of Hospital Administration, PGIMER, Chandigarh and Mr Kumar Abhay Financial Advisor PGIMER Chandigarh. Rich tributes were paid to the nursing leader under the leadership of Mrs. Jaspal Kaur, Acting CNO and Mrs Manjeet Kaur Nursing Superintendent . The inaugural address was read by Mrs. Jaspal Kaur, Acting CNO. The theme was introduced by Dr. Sandhya Ghai, Principal, NINE.
Prof. Jagat Ram encouraged and motivated the Nursing officers for better patient care. Prof. A K Gupta Medical Superintendent PGI appreciated role of Nursing personnel in providing health care services and encouraged them to do their best. Financial Advisor Mr. Kumar Abhay said not only doctors the nurses also are next to God in giving patient care. Nurses play a vital role in providing health services to the sick.
During the Nurses week celebration blood donation camp was organized followed by symposium on the theme. Health talks regarding the theme will be delivered in the OPD.
