28 July : To create awareness about HIV/AIDS on the highways, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is implementing awareness programme under Lucknow-Muzaffarpur National Highway Project (LMNHP) on NH-28. The programme has truck drivers as one of its important stakeholders and is being implemented through Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs).
NHAI has appointed four NGOs – M/s Lokarpit; M/s Gramin Mahila Kalyan Sansthan; M/s Advantage India and M/s Asia Society for Entrepreneurship & Development for this purpose. The programme is being funded from loan component of LMNHP World Bank NHAI is also seeking assistance from National Aids Control Organization (NACO) to extend such programme on other stretches under NHDP.
