By Umesh Baurai, 11 Oct : During my visit to Chamera Hydel Electric Project Stage III, at Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh for implementation of HIV/AIDS work place intervention program by HCC at its various sites. I came across internal news letter with name Beyond Bread mentioning about HCC HIV/AIDS work place policy.
The policy aims at Educating, sensitizing and creating awareness amongst employees and their families for preventing and minimizing the possibility of HIV infection Creating a safe and supportive work environment for employees affected by HIV/AIDS Prevent discrimination in the work place on the basis of HIV status of a person.
Policy assure of creating enabling environment by educating its employees and its family on the issue of HIV/AIDS, Blood transfusion, blood donation, and drug abuse. Policy ask for great care regarding dissemination of information as it should be gender sensitive, sensitive to race, disability, and sexual orientation. Major stress is been given on the issue of combating discrimination and has promised no stigmatization on the basis of HIV/AIDS status and assured its employees no termination due to HIV/AIDS status but continuance by providence of job on the basis of medical/Health status report. Special and elaborate reference is been on issue of confidentially clause.
During my visit to site I found personnel department was implementing policy with great care and commitment, required activities was done to ensure that out put and outcome is of desired level promoting awareness level among workers and severely tackling those activities promoting discrimination or stigmatization. The value system of senior employees on social issue need special mention as every body was found sensitive and concerned and was found ready to give his/her time for society. Workers were also found disciplined and supportive in implementation of activities related to HIV/AIDS prevention and were deeply touched by their chairman and Managing Director commitment to the cause of HIV/AIDS.
Personnel Manager Mr. Jitendra sangle, told that, Company’s, developed peer educators regularly arrange camps related to Blood donation, and HIV/AIDS awareness not only on sites of company but also in neighboring villages under Corporate Social Responsibility. On the issue of training he said Company supports FXB India suraksha in providing required modern equipment required for communication.
FXB India suraksha has given training to workforce to understand and implement policy with its ethos by utilizing fundamental of community development. Seminars were arranged to develop Log frame work of activities so that resources could be utilized optimally.
