15 Jan :The Indian Chamber of Commerce took second initiative of its kind, as Healthcare Summit 2009 on 14th January 2009 at The Park hotel, Kolkata. The event started with the felicitation of the Chief Guest: Dr. Surjya Kanta Mishra, Hon’ble Minister, Deptt. of Health & Family Welfare & Guest of Honour: Dr. Debesh Das, Hon’ble Minister Department of Information Technology, Govt. of West Bengal by Shri Sanjay Budhia, President, Indian Chamber of Commerce.Healthcare summit featured five sessions in partnership with WEBEL, the organization of West Bengal Government. These sessions elucidated the Quality & Accreditation in Healthcare Industry, Special Projects to eradicate life threatening diseases: PPP Model, Scope of Pharmaceutical Industry in West Bengal, ICT in Healthcare & Indian Healthcare Scenario with International Perspectives.
Different sessions from different health care sectors by various doctors, scientists & corporates included renowned names of prominent Govt. and Pvt. Officials like Dr. B K Rana, Deputy Director, NABH; Dr. B Gopal Hari, Director, NABL; Mr. Gerhard Laforgia, Lead Health Specialist, The World Bank; Ms Karin Hulshof, UNICEF India; Shri Samar Ghosh, Principal Secretary, Health, Government of West Bengal and many more.
Besides, top pharma & biotech companies like Biocon, Wockhardt, Lupin, Cipla, Alkem, Aventis etc. deliberated on pharmaceutical sector.
Among others, Stem Cell Voice of India with its member & Supporter- Cord Life India Pvt. Ltd was the highlighting features of the summit. Cord Life India Pvt. Ltd. participated on SCVI’s behalf, which is the non -profit general public society for the promotion of Stem Cell therapeutic potential. It aims at bringing all the doctors, researchers, patients, corporate & general public on one platform, thus bringing stem cell awareness.
With this purpose in the summit, Cord Life India Pvt. Ltd. in association with SCVI, exhibitied & organized a lecture on Stem Cells, which was delivered by Professor Mark Kirkland, the Medical Director of BioCell, a subsidiary of CordLife Ltd. Prof. Mark presented "Public-Private Partnerships in biotechnology – lessons from cord blood banking in Australia". He is also currently the Director of Barwon Biomedical Research and an Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne. He was recently awarded the title ‘Researcher of the Year’ for his pioneering work in redirecting the differentiation of stem cells into heart cells.
In the summit the delegates were the eminent doctors & officials from almost all branches of Medical Science including Cardiology, Medicine, Oncology, ENT, Orthopaedics etc. from almost all prominent Govt. and Pvt. Hospitals.
