By Sanjay Pahwa, Chandigarh: Desh Bhagat Group of Institutes observed International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. Dr. Zora Singh Chairman Desh Bhagat Group of Institutes and past President IMA state Branch Chandigarh advised to keep a watch on the warning signals of teenager addicted to drugs. While elaborating important signals of the drug addict Dr. Singh informed that the drug addicts start giving signals right from the beginning. The parents need to be more watchful if their teenagers show the following signs and symptoms.1. Non participation of familiar activities such as sports, homework and hobbies.
2. Stealing items from the employers, home, school or at any other work place.
3. Anger outbursts and overall attitude change.
4. Feeling exhausted, depressed and having suicidal tendencies.
5. No longer spending time with the friends who don’t use drugs.
6. Associated with un-known persons and new acquaintances.
The teenagers who are addicted to drugs are suffering from very specific problems which include fatigue and repeated health complaints. Such teenagers become either argumentative or start living alone. They are generally away from family functions and have a negative attitude. Their performance drops in school and other places where they are employed.
School students normally shun classes and do not attend the school for days together. Dr. Zora Singh advised the parents to look at these symptoms and take immediate medical help. He also motivated the students by emphasizing that “ Don’t get high, get Healthy”. The Internaional day against drug abuse & illicit trafficking is observed on 26th June 2011.
Mrs. Tajinder Kaur, Vice Chairperson of Desh Bhagat Group of Institutes & CEO of ‘Hara Punjab Khara Samaj’ highlighted parents can play a major role in educating the teenagers. Parents should spend quality time with the children. Frequent interaction with the teachers, friends of the teenagers will also be of great help to prevent falling prey to drug addiction.
H.C.Gera Executive Officer, Doctor Z India Health care Pvt Ltd. explained about the ancient concept of drug abuse and the drug addiction. References of drug addictions have been mentioned in ancient books. He further stated that SOM RAS, DEV BHOOTY, DEV PARSADA, MADIRA & MUDRA were the ancient forms of drugs.
Among the drugs which are being experimented and used by the drug addicts are Heroin, cocaine, Angel dust, smack, brown sugar and Morphine. The other forms of the drugs which are freely available at the counter are depressants like LSD( Lysergic Acid Diethylamide), Hallucinogens, candy downers, sleeping pills etc. Several inhalants, solvents, cough syrups etc. are also being freely used by the teenagers.
He appealed the youths to “Think health and not drugs”
