23 Jan :A condolence meeting was held today at 1PM in the Lecture Theatre No.1 under the chairmanship of Prof.K.K.Talwar, Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh to pay homage to the departed soul of Dr. (Mrs) Pushpa Talwar, Ex-Head, Department of Medical Microbiology who passed away yesterday (22.01.2010) at Chandigarh in her residence. Rich tributes were paid by Prof.K.K.Talwar, Director, PGI, Prof.Meera Sharma, Head, Department of Medical Microbiology, Former Directors, Emeritus Professors, ex-Professors, faculty members, the administrative staff and the resident doctors.
Dr. Talwar was born on 6th January 1931 at Mianwali (a place close to Lahore). She did her MBBS from Lady Harding Medical College in 1953 and MD (Microbiology) from PGIMER, Chandigarh in 1969. Post MBBS she spent seven years in UK working in different hospitals. She joined as tutor at PGIMER, Chandigarh in 1963. After working as faculty in different capacity, she became Head of Medical Microbiology in 1987. She spent 28 years as faculty of this Institute. She retired from PGI on 31st January 1991. At PGI, she developed the mycology division, which is unique in this country. She published many research papers in national and international journals. Her husband Dr. B. L. Talwar, Ex-Head, Department of Surgery, PGI is an eminent surgeon of this country. Her two children (son and daughter) are well established and are working abroad.
