Chandigarh, 9th May: Mother & Child Health check-up camps will be held across the state by the department of health & Family welfare to mark ‘Mothers Day’ on Sunday, with a special focus on free healthcare services for mothers and children. This was stated here today by Ms. Vini Mahajan, Principal Secretary (Health & Finance), Punjab. She informed that these camps will be held in all the 93 Urban Primary Health Centres (Urban PHC’s) and 20 Urban Kiosk’s in slum areas established under National Urban Health Mission. In these camps medical check-up, counseling and lab investigations of mothers and children will be done free of costs by doctors and other healthcare professionals, providing Gynecological and Pediatrics & Child-health services along with special counseling sessions for prevention of RTI/STI, diarrhea, anaemia, mal-nutrition and awareness sessions regarding importance of breastfeeding, hand-washing and personal hygiene etc. She informed that necessary directions have already been given to all the concerned district health officials to encourage the people to come forward and avail the free medical facilities during these ‘Mothers Day- Special Health Camps’. She further told that instructions have been given to provide special emphasis on counseling of mothers regarding general health up-keep and intake of nutritionally balanced diet.
Ms. Vini Mahajan said that during these camps food habits of children in the age groups of 0-6 months, 6-24 months and 24-36 months will be evaluated and appropriate advice will be given by health nutrition experts. Besides this, stress will be laid on immunization status, recording weights, micro-nutrient supplementation and feeding practices along with diarrhea and acute respiratory illness among children. She further informed that adequate Gynecologists/ Female Medical Officers, Dermatologist, Pediatricians/ Child Nutrition Experts, Counselors’ (RTI/STI,ICTC), Lab Technicians, Pharmacists, Staff Nurses, ANM’s and ASHA workers have been deputed for these camps. She reiterated that department of health is committed to reach out to the maximum no. of people in the state and provide them with better healthcare facilities.
