Dr Navneet Ranjan-A Profile: Born in a simple, traditional, rural, Indian family He was brought up cherishing the dream of becoming a doctor. This was perhaps He was constantly surrounded by the triad of poverty, ignorance, and disease. His personal experience and suffering have bestowed on him greatly and brought me to this level in his life and carrier. After completing his schooling from a govt. school in Jaintpur, a village of Muzaffarpur district. He pursued his Bachelors of Science in Zoology at L.S. College, Muzaffarpur and earned the degree of Bachelor of Dental surgery (BDS) from Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai for which he got selected through All India Joint Competition Entrance Examination conducted by UGC. He also obtained PG diploma in Medical Law & Ethics from NLSIU,Bangalore.
College study as a dental surgeon aspired him of providing quality healthcare to all and especially to those in greatest need. Initially, his coursework and internships were driven by him desire to practice as a Dental Surgeon in an urban environment.
The field of dentistry seemed to be a promising area but his dreams and interests led him in a different direction. He feels very lucky to have realized and chosen the path that he wanted to take in life. Very few people are fortunate enough to make their passion their profession. During his internship, He participated in a health & human rights course at TISS, Mumbai and that was the turning point in his life. He knew treating alone won’t help to fully achieve the concept of health. Definitely one has to learn the concept of prevention & that too in the larger perspective of the community. His interest was crystal clear –‘Disease prevention in populations’. These thoughts indeed catapult him to pursue career further in Public health and got the opportunity to join Interdisciplinary school of health sciences, University of Pune. He came into public health with a rather naive understanding of public health as an entity fulfilling its primary roles of thinking health in holistic terms and health for all in an unbiased manner.
Public Health, specifically ‘Oral Cancer’ has always fascinated him and He would like to extend himself as a public health practitioner with management skills by working in this challenging and fascinating field where analytical skills, quick decisive thinking and the ability to take independent decisions are put to good use.
And the thought if health is wealth then it’s another way to make people wealthy too’’ was his dictum.
Presently He is designated as Regional Health Coordinator in DFID,UK supported Government of Bihar initiative SWASTH program (Bihar Health Sector Reform) in Bihar, and responsible for coordinating technical and operational assistance in five districts to Department of Health(DoH) and NRHM.
Aside of this Dr Navneet Ranjan is also an empanelled consultant with Credibility Alliance for assessment of voluntary organization.
