This handbook is not meant to be used as a text book of nutrition and dietetics, but is advised to be used as a quick reference to get workable knowledge and emphasize its importance in patient care. This book will help to give a practical knowledge of dietetics starting with chapter on abbreviations of Medical terms, emphasis on brief description of diseases, and their symptoms. Food guide Pyramid also explains how many servings of a particular food group is to be taken for a healthy life and exchange lists will help to exchange one food with another providing with the same number of calories. Total protein and caloric requirements of normal persons and patients can also be assessed by referring to chapter on estimation of caloric requirements. The resident doctors and students will be able to calculate the fluid and nutrient requirements of patients on liquid as well as Ryle’s tube feeding from chapter on enteral nutrition. The book is also helpful for anyone interested in general awareness regarding various lifestyle diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension and Cardiovascular diseases and provides information on the risk factors, complications involved and type of diet to be taken in these diseases.
