By Mariela Govea* : The International Day against AIDS is December 1. Even though things are getting better, thanks to research and investigation- HIV/AIDS is now a cronic illness and we are far from the epidemy of the 80 ´s- , control and prevention are still basic and necessary when it comes to HIV/AIDS. Up till now condoms are still the only barrier of protection when it comes to having sex
According to statistics, South Africa, Nigeria and India( in the third place) are the three countries with more AIDS patients in the world.
A recent study published in the British Medical Journal, India has an HIV/AIDS population of approximately 1.4-1.6 million people…While it was originally estimated that India might have had as many as 5.5 million people infected in 2005, more accurate estimates put the number at below 2.5 million in 2007. These new figures are supported by the World Health Organization and UNAIDS. According to the United Nations 2011 AIDS report, there has been a 50% decline in the number of new HIV infections in the last 10 years in India. Currently, India spends about 5% of its health budget on HIV/AIDS.
In 2010, NACO approved the TeachAIDS educational materials marking the first time HIV/AIDS education could be provided decoupled from sex education. Later that year, the Government of Karnataka approved the materials for their state of 50 million and committed to distributing them in 5,500 government schools
As you may already know HIV/ AIDS is transmitted through intercourse, mainly; but also is a focus of epidemy -in the second place, and also prostitution , which is another source of sex .
In India the first cases dated from 1986 and they were sex workers in Chennai.
I want you to get aware of the fact that many of the prostitutes are not only sex workers, many of them are victims of treat. Have you ever thought that one of them can be your sister, or even your daughter?
Let ´s fight prostitution and combat treat, and help sex workers find another kind of jobs, more accord to women ´s dignity.
Even if you have a steady couple, please everyone do take care of yourselves
Since its apparition three decades ago, AIDS has already killed more than 35 million people all around the world.
