30 July : Chandigarh Unit of All India Anti Terrorist Front is organizing a Blood Donation Camp in the memory of Shaheed Udham Singh on his Martyrdom day tomorrow i.e. on Friday 31st July, 2009 from 8 am to 2 pm at Ambedkar Bhawan, Sector 37A, Chandigarh.
The Blood Donation Camp will be conducted by the team of doctors from Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh.
Shaheed Udham Singh was one of the great patriots of India during Indian freedom struggle, with a burning desire to see his motherland free from the clutches of British colonialism and imperialism. To avenge the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy, he reached England by the mid-thirties. On 13 March 1940, he killed General Dyer in the Caxton Hall, London and was subsequently hanged on 31 July 1940 in Pentonville Prison in London.
