Chandigarh, March 16- Haryana Transport Department has appealed to the people to identify the officials who are using light on the vehicles and bring to the notice of the government so as to completely curb the practice of VIP culture as envisaged by the Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi. In case, a vehicle is seen plying in contravention of these directions, the same might be photographed and intimation be sent to the Challaning Officer. India bans use of red beacon lights on cars.
While stating this here today, Additional Chief Secretary, Transport Department, Mr R. R. Jowel said that the Police Department has also been directed for ensuring compliance of these instructions in letter and spirit. The Deputy Commissioners have also been requested to get the vehicle challaned which are being plied in contravention of these directions.
He said that the Prime Minister with the intention of making New India and curbing the practice of VIP Culture decided to stop the use of Red Beacon on the vehicles. He also stated every Indian is special, every Indian is VIP. Keeping in view the directions of the Prime Minister, a notification was issued by the Government of India to stop the use of the Red Beacon. Multi coloured light was allowed and that also only in case of emergency duty. It was specifically mentioned that the multi coloured light should not be put to use when the vehicle is not on designated duty.
He said that it has come to the notice that these directions were not followed in toto and lights are also being used by the field officers while not on emergent law and order duty. Some of the officers are using these lights in violation of government instructions. Senior officers who are expected to be role model, which in this case are not.
A letter has been sent to the Home Department, all District and Session Judges, all Deputy Commissioners and all Commissioners of Police and Superintendents of Police requesting them for compliance.
