PASIGHAT, Nov16: Sudhakantha Bhupen Hazarikas ashes were immersed in the River Siang at Komlighat today with all-religion prayers for the eternal peace of the departed soul. Earlier on yesterday, the ashes were taken to Pasighat by Ainstein Koyu (CO) from the state museum, Itanagar and members of Sankar Guru Kristi Kendra, Pasighat escorted the Urn from Ruksin check-gate to DCs office. The DC (Incharge) SC Debnath received with full honour and further kept in the Conference Hall for public view.
Today, thousand of admirers thronged to pay homage to the legendary singer Bhupenda. Later, the Urn containing the ashes was carried to the immersion site in a procession. Officers, police personnel, leaders, students and businessmen led by the prominent writer Oshong Ering, Deputy Commissioner SC Debnath, BS Mahra (Dy.SP) and Dr. BN Hazarika (Dean of CoH) marched from the DCs office to Komlighat via residential colonies, Namghar and main market etc. Innumerable senior citizens including general public were also present in the last journey of iconic figure Hazarika.
At Pasighat Namghar, Asomiyas performed holy rituals and paid special regards to Lt Hazarikas Urn followed by Nam-Kirtan, Dhani and floral tributes. DC Debnath told media though Bhupendas artistic sensibility was firmly rooted in this land; he built a musical bridge connecting Asom to the rest of the world. The vacuum that he had left behind would not be able to fill up, he further added.
