25 Aug : Stunned by Monday’s scathing attack of Mr Arun Shourie who had demanded complete overhaul of the party apparatus, BJP office-bearers, including party chief Rajnath Singh, held a meeting at the party headquarter on Tuesday morning to discuss the situation arising out of the senior leader’s open revolt.
Besides Mr Rajnath Singh, party Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, party general secretaries Vijay Goel and Vinay Katiyar were among those who attended the meeting.
Sources said the party leaders reviewed the situation but apparently no decision regarding any action against Mr Shourie was taken, though some action cannot be ruled out later in the day or Wednesday.
Mr Naqvi, however, said there was no revolt in the party and expressed confidence that the party would emerge stronger. One meeting of party leaders was also held on Monday night after Mr Shourie’s views were out.
Mr Shourie in an TV interview had described the party as ”kati patang”(kite without string) and called for complete change of the top brass of the organisation and its take over by RSS.
The criticism of Mr Shourie has rattled the already beleaguered leadership of the party which was yet to recover from the aftermath of another senior leader Jaswant Singh’s expulsion. The no-holds-barred attack of the former Union Minister had prompted the party to say that what Mr Shourie had said was very serious and very unfortunate and action would be taken against him.Party President Rajnath Singh is likely to meet RSS Chief over Shourie’s revolt.
