Chandigarh : Dr Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, Professor & Chairman, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh, has been selected for one of the most coveted awards in the Indian Pharma Education and Research, i.e., “Bharathi Vidhyapeeth Award for the Best Pharmacy Teacher – 2014”, instituted by the Association of Pharmacy Teachers of India (APTI). An Expert Committee of APTI has selected Professor Bhoop for this Award in recognition to his unparalleled contributions to pharmaceutical education, research and profession in the national and global scenario, esp. in the domain of developing novel and nanostructured drug delivery systems using Quality by Design (QbD). This prestigious award will be confered upon him, along with a citation and cash prize, during the Inaugural Function of the 19th Annual National APTI Convention on 28th November 2014 at Pune. This news was conveyed to him very recently through a communiqué from Dr Mahesh D Burande, President, APTI-Head Quarters, Bengaluru.
Professor Bhoop, a faculty member with a rich teaching and research experience of over 33 years, has to his credit over 217 publications in peer-reviewed journals including 9 books and 33 book chapters. He has been instrumental in filing three patents and transfer of two nanostructured drug delivery technologies for commercial applications to different pharmaceutical industries. He has handled 15 research projects and guided/guiding 24 Ph.D.’s, three post-doctorates and over 50 M.Pharm scholars. He has duly trained several hundreds of industrial scientists under his guidance, esp. on QbD via conferences, onsite training seminars & workshops. A widely travelled scientist, he has delivered more than 230 keynote, plenary and invited talks delivered in India and overseas including in USA, Canada, UK, Germany, China, Thailand, Hong Kong and Kuwait, and has 260 conference presentations and 26 Best Paper awards to him and team.
His work has fetched him several awards & accolades like, Leading Educators of World (UK) 2007, Pharma Buzz Pharma Personality Award 2008, Shiksha Rattan Award 2008, Innovative Scientist Award by CIIPP 2012, Pharma QbD Excellence Award 2012 by CPhI-Asia, QbD Product Performance Award 2012 and QbD Product Performance Award 2013 by Amer Assoc Pharm Sci, USA, Outstanding Scientist Award 2014 by Select Biosciences (UK), PUTA Excellence Award 2014 and Stat-Ease QbD Performance Award (USA) 2014.
The current “APTI Best Pharmacy Teacher Award” is a sequel to several other global and national awards and accolades, already been bestowed upon Professor Bhoop.
Currently, Professor Bhoop is the Chairman, University Institute of Pharma Sciences and the Coordinator of UGC Centre of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Since 2011, he has also been serving as the Founder, Coordinator of Interdisciplinary UGC Centre for Excellence in Nano Applications (Biomedical Sciences). Besides, he has also been the Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh (2011-13) and Dean Alumni Relations (2007-2011). On the basis of his exemplary accomplishments, he has been nominated by Hon’ble Vice President of India, Mr Hamid Ansari to the PU Senate as the Fellow of Panjab University from 2012-2016. Since December 2013, he has been elected unopposed to the highest temporal body, PU Syndicate too.
The APTI is the only apex professional body of pharmacy teachers established in 1966 with the mission of offering a national platform to deal with various issues related to Pharmacy Education in India. This national body has over a score of state branches and patronage of more than 7,000 life members across the country.
