31 Oct : Nation pays homage to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on 25th anniversary of her martyrdom on Saturday.
At Indira Gandhi’s samadhi at Shakti Sthal in the capital, floral tributes were paid to the departed leader, Tributes were paid on behalf of the President Pratibha Devi Sing Patil, who is on a foreign visit.
Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari paid floral tributes at the Shakti Sthal.Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh also visited Shakti Sthal and paid his tributes.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi also paid floral tributes to Indira Gandhi.
A series of programmes are being organised across India to commemorate Indira Gandhi’s martyrdom.
The Congress President Sonia Gandhi is scheduled to give the prestigious 24th Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration for the year 2008 to noted journalist, writer and human rights activist Balraj Puri at a function in New Delhi.
On the martyrdom anniversary of Indira Gandhi, a prayer meeting was organised at the official residence of Indira Gandhi at 1, Akbar Road this was attended by Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Family members of Smt. Gandhi and other dignitaries attended the prayer meeting.
Twenty five years ago, on this very day, India’s third Prime Minister Indira Gandhi made the supreme sacrifice at the alter of the nation.
Undaunted by manifold challenges, Indira led the nation to new heights on national and international fronts.
