Thousands of farmers gathered in Mumbai today to press for their demands regarding various issues. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met their representatives and accepted majority of their demands.
Among the demands that were granted were a review of the Forest Land Act and an assurance that all pending matters related to it would be resolved in six months.
Another demand that was met was that of a change in the plan to link rivers in Nashik, Thane and Palghar districts so as to ensure that tribal lands are not submerged and water from the scheme is made available to these areas and other drought-prone districts.
The state govt also agreed to loan waivers on the basis of the 2008 model for those who had not benefitted from it.
