Prime Minister Narendra Modi expresses concern over continuing logjam in Parliament, says it is jeopardizing poor’s interests by blocking an important legislation that government is proposing for bonus to the poor.
The Prime Minister said that it is unfortunate that Parliament is not allowed to function smoothly. Addressing a programme in the national capital, PM Modi said people only talk about GST but there are also several other measures for the poor that are pending in Parliament.
The Prime Minister said that our definition of democracy can’t be restricted to elections & governments only. He also stated that public participation is needed to strengthen democracy. He added that development…needs to be made a public movement.
The Lok Sabha witnessed adjournments over the protest by the Congress members. As soon as the House met for the day, Congress members demanded action against the BJP member Virendra Singh for his remarks against senior Congress leaders yesterday.
Speaker Sumitra Mahajan assured the Opposition that the remarks have been expunged from the proceedings. Despite this Congress leader Malikarjun Kharge continued to raise the issue.
The Rajya Sabha also witnessed repeated disruptions on the issue. The agitating Congress members shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is for the third day today, the National Herald newspaper issue is being raised by the Congress.
Parliamentary affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu has said that smooth functioning of parliament is also opposition’s responsibility.
