Chandigarh : Today “Aawaaz” the civil social group organized a peaceful protest at Sector 17 Plaza to request our MP’s to allow the parliament to work. Hundred of people from various NGO’s join hands together to make an appeal to let the parliament work. It has been seen that the previous session as well as the current winter session was washed out completely and not even the single bill was passed.
Opposition has every right to raised their voice but they don’t have any right to disrupt the parliament for being functioning. Gaurav Goel, Advocate founding member of the Aawaaz said that MP’s are paid to do the work constructively not always to protest or disrupt the parliament. Hundreds of important legislation are pending just because few people doesn’t want to work. All the politicians must work together for the welfare of the Nation irrespective of the Party Politics.
AnoopSareen said that the month-long parliamentary session has been marred by protests from the MP’s which is not good for the democracy. If somebody has the issue he or she shall take the issue to the masses, may be on road but please allow the parliament to work and function it properly. If the citizens of India are not concerned from any Party but yes we are concerned about our future, about our Nation to progress.
Anup Gupta, the young activist said that there have been rough patches in the functioning of parliamentary democracy in India — the roughest was of course the Emergency of the seventies — but seldom has the functioning of the two Houses been held hostage to serve partisan party purpose quite in the manner we are witnessing. Besides, the level of public discourse has reached a new low.
H.S. Bhullar said that indeed, we have reached the point when blaming one party or the other will not lead us anywhere. Rather, the need of the hour is to evolve a new consensus among all parties that disrupting Assembly or parliamentary proceedings is taboo. And civilised political discourse must have limits.
