Lasith Malinga became the first player in ICC Cricket World Cup history to take two hat-tricks after a stunning bowling performance on his return to the team saw him take 6-38 as Sri Lanka defeated Kenya by nine wickets on Tuesday.
Malinga used his inswinging yorkers to devastating effect with a series of unplayable deliveries, finishing the innings with four wickets in the space of six legitimate deliveries as Kenya crumbled from 102-2 to 142 all out.
Earlier Collins Obuya (52) and David Obuya (51) added a 94-run stand as they showed great patience against a powerful Sri Lanka attack.
However, they were the only batters to make double figures on another disappointing day for Jimmy Kamande’s side.
Sri Lanka’s batters then attacked the Kenya attack with great effect, with Upul Tharanga (67 not out), Tillakaratne Dilshan (44) and Kumar Sangakkatra (27 not out) achieving the victory target with more than 31 overs remaining.
