External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday tore apart Congress allegations on the Lalit Modi issue saying she has done nothing wrong and she had only helped Lalit Modi’s ailing wife on humanitarian ground.
Swaraj was speaking in the Lok Sabha while intervening in the debate on the adjournment motion on the Lalit Modi issue moved by Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge.
Swaraj also hit out at Congress for helping Bofors scam accused Italian businessman Quattrocchi and Warren Anderson, responsible for Bhopal gas tragedy flee country. The minister said that Lalit Modi got the UK right of residency under the UPA and it is the Congress which owes an explanation to the country.
She said that the Enforcement Directorate did not act under UPA rule for four years and now Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has expedited the investigation in the case. Sushma Swaraj also rejected allegations of conflict of interest against him saying that her husband was not a lawyer in Lalit Modi passport issue and her daughter was only the 9th junior lawyer.
Earlier, initiating the debate on the issue Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj helped Lalit Modi in getting UK travel papers despite the fact that he was an offender facing action in money laundering case.
